Our Position
The U.S. Department of Justice requires insurers to make monthly reports to the National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS) on the junk and salvage automobiles they obtain. NAMIC opposes any expansion of reporting requirements for insurers when declaring a salvage or “total loss” vehicle to the NMVTIS. It would place an undue burden on insurers to report information that is not routinely collected.
