NAMIC Announce Recipients of Chair, Service Awards


NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Sept. 20, 2021) – The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies presented its Chair Award today to Sandy Parrillo, retired president and CEO of Providence Mutual Fire Insurance Company, for her decades of service to the mutual property/casualty insurance industry and her community.

“It is a great honor to present Sandy with this award today,” said Bob Zak, NAMIC board chair and board chair and retired president and CEO of Merchants Mutual Insurance Company in Buffalo, N.Y. “Her long list of contributions to the mutual insurance industry has been nothing short of inspiring, and our industry has been enriched through Sandy’s work and dedication.”

Parrillo joined Providence Mutual in 1977 as an underwriter, moving up the ranks until 2000 when she was elected president and CEO. Throughout her career, Parrillo served NAMIC as a director and the 2011-2012 board chair while also serving on the boards of the Mutual Fire Insurance Association of New England, Excess Reinsurance Company, and the Rhode Island Governor’s Insurance Council, among numerous others. She is currently serving as a director for other organizations such as the Washington Trust Bank, Cranston Print Works, and the University of Rhode Island Foundation and Alumni Engagement.

“It would be hard to find someone who has done more for the mutual insurance industry and community than Sandy,” Zak said. “We are grateful Sandy has been a part of NAMIC for so many years, and this year’s Chair Award is a testament to her leadership, accomplishment, and outstanding service she brought to our industry.”

NAMIC also recognized five other individuals during its annual convention for their service to the association and the industry through the NAMIC Service Award:

  • Richard Bates, associate general counsel, Corporate Law Division, State Farm;

  • Noelle Codispoti, co-founder and chief transformation officer, Verto, an organization focused on advancing talent in the insurance industry;

  • Rex Frazier, president, Personal Insurance Federation of California;

  • Jeffrey Howell, general manager and president, Bay Quinte Mutual Insurance Company (Canada); and

  • Pamela Williams, executive director, BuildStrong Coalition.
