HB 1539, HD-1 and its companion bill, SB 2342, SD-2, are moving in the Legislature. Both amended bills have had the specific mandatory auto insurance liability coverage limits amount removed for further discussion in the Legislature.
The originally introduced bills had Financial Responsibility Law mandatory liability coverage limits increases from the current 20,000/40,000/10,000 to 50,000/100,000/20,000 upon enactment of law and would then have subsequently increased the limits on January 1, 2027, to 75,000/200,000/40,000. This bill still maintains provisions to increase fines for uninsured driving and increases to the penalty for reckless driving of a motor vehicle.
The House bill passed out of the chamber on March 1, and the Senate bill is expected to pass any day now.
