Vice President - Public Affairs

Catherine Imus

Catherine Imus currently leads the public affairs activities for the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies. In that capacity, Imus oversees all communications and public relations activities, such as advocacy and member communications, as well as digital and print communications, including serving as editor-in-chief for IN magazine.

Over a 30-year career, Imus has held positions in the media, government, and corporate and association public affairs. Prior to joining NAMIC in January 2015, Imus was senior strategist, executive vice president at Stanton Communications, a national public relations agency based in Washington, D.C. There she directed strategic communications programs for a variety of corporate and trade association clients. She joined the agency in 2001 from a national trade association, where she was executive director for a broad consumer education and industry awareness campaign. Previously, she directed communications for an industry trade association representing insulation manufacturers, where she dealt with issues related to worker safety, public health, and the environment. For eight years, she held the position of vice president at an international public affairs agency. She also worked as a lobbyist for a major steel company, following a three-year stint as a legislative assistant on Capitol Hill.

Imus began her career as a news director and later news anchor for a leading radio station in northern Indiana. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, with a degree in mass communications and political science.
