Civil Justice Reform [S]
Insurances companies take seriously their obligation to defend their policyholders against lawsuits. Many lawsuits, however, lack merit but still result in costly settlements or litigation. The expense of all lawsuits, estimated to be more than $3,380 annually for every family of four, is ultimately added to the cost of everyday services and products.
Frivolous lawsuits incur higher systemic costs, suppressed economic growth, and less innovation in services and products. Consumers end up paying more than they should for everyday necessities and conveniences.
NAMIC supports common-sense reforms to the civil justice system that will restore balance and fairness in liability issues. We oppose unnecessary expansion of liability in statutes and court decisions.
