B. Mastering the Art of Negotiation
Negotiation is a core competency for every insurance company and is critical for effective claims resolution. During this presentation, Jim Kaiser of Casentric and Richard Lang of Bear River Mutual will focus on applying the “Art of Negotiation” to personal injury claims negotiation. While our discussion focuses on negotiation in claims, the framework we discuss applies to every negotiation. Industry data from the Insurance Information Institute shows a staggering 49 percent increase in the average cost of resolving third-party personal claims between 2017 and 2022 that has generated significant pressure on company results. To make sense of this trend, topics such as nuclear verdicts, medical inflation, and bad-faith risks in claims resolution have dominated our attention. What has been missing in this attention is a foundation for controlling it. This presentation will demonstrate how to implement a negotiation framework that delivers demonstrably better results.

C. Building Codes: A Tool For Mitigation
Building codes are the safety standards for our built environment and play a significant role in shaping the resilience or lack thereof of in communities of tomorrow. The adoption of modern building codes has repeatedly shown the ability to reduce damage and financial loss. Multiple studies by the National Institute of Building Science and the Federal Emergency Management Agency have shown that investing in modern code construction can save anywhere from a 4:1 ratio to an 8:1 ratio for every dollar invested in a modern system of codes. A review of structural damage from Hurricane Ian by the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety estimated that the modern Florida Building Code saved as much as $3 billion to single-family homes. Despite the proven resilience offered by modern codes, only 17 states have statewide, uniformly enforced building code systems. Many of the states without such building codes face the brunt of severe convective storm impacts. This session will explore the history of building codes in the United States and discuss how we arrived at the code structure we have today. It will also cover the ability of building codes and their system of protections to mitigate the impact of windstorms and wildfires.

D. Did We Just Become Best Friends? Building Relationships With Your Independent Agents
Despite rapid growth in digital channel use and accessibility, agents continue to play a critical role in the relationship between an insurer and its policyholders. A. Building a Culture of Meaningful Recognition
When employees feel appreciated and recognized for their day-to-day work and have meaningful relationships with their team members, they are more likely to work harder and stay with a company longer. In fact, recognition is the most important driver of great work — outranking higher pay, greater autonomy, and even promotion opportunities. Effective recognition pinpoints moments of success and praises specific behaviors, which when implemented at scale lead to happier employees, greater levels of engagement, higher performance, and longer tenure. Discover how to make appreciation and recognition an integral part of your workplace culture.

B. Gen AI: Revolutionizing and Optimizing Insurance Operations
If your board, leadership, and company are like so many others in the industry, generative AI and artificial intelligence, in general, are the top topics of discussion. Why is this important? Just consider the May 2024 AM Best report that reviewed property/casualty insurer financials relative to their innovation scores. The correlations are stunning and predictive and prove the value of innovation. Furthermore, those considered non-innovators were overrepresented with downgrades. This session will dive into Majesco’s data and analytics strategy, its approach, and use cases across the value chain. It will also share a live demo, highlighting the 10 to 15 times productivity and operational efficiency you can achieve. Join this session to see how embedded GenAI across the business can provide real operational and productivity value and transform your business, putting you at the forefront for success.

RECOMMENDED AIRPORT AND TRANSPORTATION OPTIONS
The Gaylord Rockies Resort & Convention Center is located conveniently only 7 miles from the Denver International Airport, approximately a 10-minute drive. The hotel does not provide a shuttle from the airport. Uber/Lyft is the suggested form of transportation to and from the airport.
If you choose to drive to the hotel, the following parking options are available.
Self-Parking – $30/night plus tax
Valet Parking – $45/night plus tax
Ground Transportation
Occasionally, groups claiming to be a “Convention Housing Bureau” or a similar name have contacted registered and/or regular attendees of the NAMIC Annual Convention claiming the ability to secure room reservations at a discounted rate at the official NAMIC hotel in September. Please be aware that these companies are not authorized to represent NAMIC and cannot secure rooms within the group room block. Unfortunately, this problem is becoming more prevalent among convention groups. If you are considering alternative housing arrangements for the NAMIC Annual Convention, please keep in mind that there are benefits to booking your reservation through NAMIC, including discounted rates, protected reservations, and the ability for NAMIC staff to assist you with a reservation should you experience a problem. Please alert NAMIC should you be contacted directly by a company about making room reservations for the convention.
MEET AT THE PLACE WHERE THE INDUSTRY COMES TOGETHER
Because so many industry leaders gather at NAMIC’s Annual Convention, many reinsurance companies, exhibitors and rating agencies host gatherings in conjunction with the Convention. So, if you’re looking for an ultra-convenient way to get your people together, we can help you maximize your time and investment.
The NAMIC Annual Convention is designed first to serve as a member gathering with educational and networking benefits, but we also recognize there is an opportunity to help service partners and attendees maximize the experience with business meetings, too. As a convenience, we provide maps of the primary meeting areas and can assist you in reserving space to conduct meetings either on the Marketplace exhibit show floor, in a hospitality suite, meeting room, or hotel restaurant space. We can also provide directional assistance to attendees invited to meetings or special event functions, with times and specific room details.
HOSPITALITY SUITES AND MEETING SPACE
NAMIC has a block of hospitality suites at the Gaylord Rockies Resort & Convention Center. Availability is limited, and assignment will be based on multiple factors including NAMIC membership, sponsorship, and Convention registrations of the requesting company.
- Companies wishing to reserve a suite or meeting room for hospitality or private meeting needs are required to have at least one individual registered per assigned suite or meeting room.
- NAMIC will assign the meeting space and provide you a facility contact to arrange specific meeting needs such as room set up, audiovisual, food/beverage, or other hospitality-related arrangements.
- A meeting space usage fee will be paid to NAMIC for larger ballrooms and boardrooms. Executive Suites incur a per-night hotel fee and a one-time usage fee paid to NAMIC. Specific information about these fees is available upon request for meeting space.
- If the Affiliate Space is used by the Company as a private meeting space, the minimum term for such Affiliate Space reservation is 3 calendar days. This minimum term does not apply to Affiliate Space to be used for a one-time, short-term purpose such as a solitary breakfast, lunch, dinner, reception, or after-hours event.
- A signed Master Relationship Agreement and Statement of Work is required for all hospitality and meeting space.
For questions regarding suites and meeting rooms, please contact events@namic.org.
