You may have seen some reports that the House is considering another TRIA bill that is different than the Senate-passed bill. Please do not get confused by what are end-of-the-session maneuvers between the House and Senate.
House Financial Services Committee Chairman Frank clearly indicated today that if the Senate will not accept the House approach - and it will not - then he will bring up the Senate-passed legislation and agree to it.
The result should be that somewhere in the next 24 hours or before the Congress adjourns by the end of next week, legislation will be sent to the President for signing. The administration issued a statement yesterday stating that it will sign the Senate bill. Therefore, NAMIC believes that the TRIA extension will be signed into law before the end of the year.
We will continue to keep you posted. In the meantime, if you have any questions or need additional information, please feel free to NAMIC Senior Director - Federal Affairs Marliss McManus.
